u2028A last-ditch effort to fight off the pending cold, a passionate plea to thaw our unfeeling bones, and, perhaps, our hearts - tonight LiveChinaMusic invites three bands to keep us snug this winter - including Shanghai’s Pale Air, Nanjing’s MilkGuard, and Hangzhou’s PussyEyes - via their reverb-soaked melodies, ethereal vocals, and psychedelic radiance, plunging listeners into the recesses of their dreams.

Seasoned Shanghai shoegaze act Pale Air find an almost cosmic beauty and rage in the reverb-heavy resonance, creating a storm of emotions that are bound to stir you up. Deftly delicate one minute and fraughtly turbulent the next, there’s a depth to the young band’s music that’s easy to plunge into - as walls of sound and distorted vocals slowly engulf you. As the famous poet Jorge Luis Borges put it - they have found a way to shape the chaos of dreams into shape.

Nanjing’s MilkGuard is the latest shoegaze act in China to make beautiful noise here on the Mainland - and their debut 'Wake Up from a Dream' puts them firmly on the map. With lyrics wispily sung in Hokkien (a south China dialect) and a sound coated with a turbulent psychedelic sheen, MilkGuard is shoegaze that isn’t afraid to skirt along the edge of oblivion both emotionally and musically - at times resembling a chaotic dream one can’t quite escape or as the title suggests, wake up from.

Former singer of Beijing dream pop band Goodbye Honeyboy, Chuan Xi now resides in Hangzhou where she started her new project PussyEyes. Delicately assembled with a woozy ethereal touch - the music finds that sweet spot between dream pop and dance music - matching its lush, humid production with Chuan Xi’s airy transporting voice.
