Professor and Music Director of western opera CENTRAL ACADEMY OF DRAMA (ZHINGXI) BEIJING

The Viennese conductor with Danish and American roots, Niels Muus is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, Denmark. He further his studied at the Conservatorio San Martino (Bologna), theMozarteum (Salzburg), the Ecole Normale de Musique (Paris), as well as with maestri Franco Ferrara, Carlo Zecchi, Tatjana Nikolajewna and Jakob Gimpel.

Between 1992 and 1999, Niels Muus was a principal conductor at the Tiroler Landestheater, Innsbruck, and between 1999 and 2003, conductor and casting director at the Volksoper Wien. Recognized as an expert in the field of opera, Niels Muus has conducted some major productions worldwide. Among others, notable was a televised production by RAI of Donizetti's "L'Elisir d'amore" from the MacerataOpera Festival (ARTHAUS MUSIK, DENON, RAI-TDK VIDEO,TDK ASIA, EDITION ZWEITAUSENDUNDEINS)- (“critics pick”,New York Times), Rossini`s "L`Assedio di Corinto" for the Culture Olympics inGreece, Dvorak's "Rusalka" for the international H.C. Andersen Year in Moscow and Denmark and Verdi`s "Aida" at the Worker`s Stadium in Beijing (broadcasted by CCTV).

As a symphonic conductor, Niels Muus has given performances in concert halls such as Berliner Philharmonie, Gewandhaus Leipzig, Academia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Chicago Symphony Hall,National Arts Center Ottawa, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Tokyo Opera City, and TivoliCopenhagen conducting orchestras such as MDR Symphony Orchestra, Berliner Symphoniker,Orchestra Arturo Toscanini, Chicago Philharmonic, Tokyo MetropolitanSymphony Orchestra, Kanazawa OIK ,Sichuan Philharmonic Orchestra, Vancouver Opera Orchestra,Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, and many others. Since 2007 Niels Muus every year represents Austria at the Salute to Vienna concerts in US and Canada.

2008-2011; music director of the international research project "The World Opera" which is in collaboration with major international research institutes such as, Stanford University, McGill University (CIRMMT), New York University, Tromsö University and KTH Stockholm.

Since September 2013 Niels Muus is professor and director of the international highly prestigious Opera Masters Program at the MUK (Musik and Art University City of Vienna).

Niels Muus is an internationally renowned specialist for the music of W.A.Mozart. He is currently co- director of the MOZART PROJECT – an annual opera project with the Sommerakademie der Wiener Philharmoniker.

Since 2019 Niels Muus is Music Director for Western Opera at the Central Academy of Drama Beijing

The discography with Niels Muus include CD and DVD productions for the following labels: DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHON, ARTHAUS MUSIK, GRAMOLA, DANACORD, DYNAMIC, DENON and PREISSER RECORDS WIEN, SOREL RECORDS.

2015 Niels Muus was nominated for the prestigious PULITZER PRIZE (recording: Zaimont 4.symphony) and for the GRAMMY AWARD 2006 (La Pastorella) and 2016 (recording: Prokofiev Piano concertos 1+2).

博士毕业于美国伊斯曼音乐学院管风琴演奏专业，同时持有管风琴演奏家文凭，与钢琴演奏硕士学位。求学期间有幸受中国留学基金会以及美国布朗森基金会资助。

所获国际重要比赛奖项包括：加拿大林伍德国际管风琴大赛(2019)；上海国际管风琴大赛(2017)；迈阿密国际管风琴大赛(2019)；Arthur全美管风琴大赛(2019)。演奏足迹涵盖多个重要管风琴音乐中心,如斯利音乐厅(美国水牛城),上海东方艺术中心，广州星海音乐厅，圣心大教堂(美国纽约州),太平洋路德大学音乐厅(美国华盛顿州),圣约翰大教堂(美国缅因州)，成都城市音乐厅等。

作为管风琴学者，研究方向侧重意大利文艺复兴与巴洛克音乐文化，以及现当代管风琴新作品。现任教于四川音乐学院手风琴与现代器乐系。主要师承: 管风琴DanaRobinson, WilliamPorter; 羽管键琴EdoardoBellotti, LisaCrawford; 钢琴WilliamHeiles,王晴华。
