CONDUCTOR - Christian Ehwald
Christian Ehwald completed his studies at the conservatories in Berlin with Horst Förster and in Leningrad with Arvid and Mariss Jansons. As a prizewinner at the 6th International Karajan
Competition he started a successful international career as a conductor. His collaboration with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Berlin State Opera was particularly close. In addition, he has repeatedly conducted many of the world's most important orchestras, such as the BerlinPhilharmonic, the Dresdner Staatskapelle, NHK Tokyo, Petersburg Philharmonic and many other large orchestras in Europe, Asia and America and of course all the major orchestras in Germany, including the Symphony Orchestra of Bavarian Radio Munich, WDR Köln, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Dresden Philharmonic and many others.
In the last 15 years, one focus of his work has been working with orchestras in Korea, Japan and especially China. Here he conducted concerts in Seoul, Tokyo, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu and Kunming, among others. He was music director of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra for 6 years and has repeatedly performed with the SSO in Beijing. He has been Honorary Conductor of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra since 2018.
Since 2002 Christian Ehwald also has been a professor at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in
Berlin. He is one of the most successful conducting teachers in the world and his students have won many of the most important conducting competitions.
