指挥家谭利华作客苏州交响乐团，携手青年大提琴才俊罗伟熹奉上一个被浓浓浪漫主义情怀包裹的夜晚。如果你仅听过英国作曲家埃尔加的一部作品，或仅听过一部大提琴与乐队作品，那么它极可能就是埃尔加的《E小调大提琴协奏曲》，尽管在它诞生的1919年，埃尔加的音乐语言与日新月异的音乐会听众口味相比已稍显保守。在其极致的抒情表达之外，这部堪称独奏大提琴曲库之奠基石的协奏曲展示了二十世纪精神之中的诸多独特面。

A great evening of romantic nostalgia led by our guest conductor Tan Lihua and the young cello talent Luo Weixi. If you have only ever heard one piece of music by the English composer Edward Elgar, or one piece composed for cello and orchestra, it is likely to be Elgar’ s Cello Concerto in E Minor. Even though the composer’ s language had already slightly gone out of fashion with the concert-going public when the piece was composed in 1919. Despite its longing lyricism, this concerto—a cornerstone of the solo cello repertoire—displays many of the rough edges of the twentieth century.
Similarly one may think of Rachmaninov’ s Third Symphony as a piece of out-and-out nostalgia, an over-ripe romantic relic that belonged to another era even at the time of its first performance in 1936. But, there is a lot more to the way this masterpiece works than its quintessential Russian expressivity in melodic outline and rhythm. But before diving deep into this feast of late Romanticism, first enjoy the storming overture to Siciliani Vespri by Verdi, the last of his full-dress overtures in which a musical and dramatical idea of death is elaborated with the orchestral technique of compelling eloquence.
